Wavestone published its UK Cybersecurity Startup Radar 2026 this week, an independent assessment of the UK's most significant early-stage cybersecurity companies. Theodosian was named in the data security category.
235 organizations were assessed. 225 made it in as startups. Inclusion requires meeting a specific set of criteria: founded within the last seven years, fewer than 35 employees, a product-first model, and less than 50% of revenue from consulting or professional services. Wavestone's methodology is explicit that the radar is designed to identify companies addressing genuine gaps in the market, not improving on what already exists.
That framing matters to us. Data-centric file security is not an incremental improvement on perimeter tools. It is a different architectural approach to a problem that perimeter tools were not designed to solve: what happens to your sensitive files after they leave your controlled environment. That is the problem Theodosian was built around. Being independently recognized for it by a firm of Wavestone's standing confirms that the market is starting to see it the same way.

What the Wavestone Radar Tracks
Wavestone is a global consulting firm with a dedicated cybersecurity practice and a CERT team that responds to live incidents across industries. Their UK radar is not a pay-to-play list. It is a structured independent analysis of the UK startup ecosystem, now in its second year.
The 2026 edition identified 144 newly added startups — a sign of how quickly the early-stage UK market is moving. Across those 235 organizations, the five largest categories were Governance and Risk Compliance, Application Security, Detection and Response, Data and Communication, and Identity and Access Management.
The report also calls out a specific deep tech segment covering data encryption, secure virtualization, and identity, noting that these areas "provide defensible technical differentiation in a market where AI-enabled product features are becoming increasingly common." That distinction — between genuine architectural differentiation and feature-level AI adoption — is one we think about constantly.
Why This Matters Beyond the Recognition
The UK cybersecurity startup ecosystem has a scale-up problem. The radar identifies 9 scale-ups from the 225 startups covered — a conversion rate that reflects how difficult it is to get from early product traction to repeatable enterprise adoption.
The route through that bottleneck is not better marketing. It is clearer evidence that the problem being solved is real, that the architecture is defensible, and that customers in regulated industries are willing to stake their compliance posture on it. Independent recognition from analysts and advisory firms that work with those customers is part of how that evidence accumulates.
Being in the Wavestone radar alongside companies across the UK's data and communications security segment is a step in that direction.
We are grateful to the Wavestone team for the rigorous and transparent methodology they apply to this work.
